Bend light, multiply reflections, and trick the eye - built by you.
Explore the fascinating principles of light and optics with the Toy Maker Materials Sets Optics. This hands-on STEM kit lets children construct three fully working optical models from scratch, a space abyss scope, a magic kaleidoscope, and a grating robot, while discovering the science of how light behaves, bends, and creates what we see.
For science they can look through, each model demonstrates a core concept in optics. The space abyss scope uses a convex lens and light strip to create the illusion of light stretching endlessly into the distance, teaching the principle of light dispersion and how lenses bend and focus light.
The magic kaleidoscope uses multiple mirror reflections to multiply a single image into a stunning symmetrical pattern, demonstrating how angles of reflection create infinite repeated images.
The grating robot uses a striped optical grating sheet to create a moiré effect, where moving the model against a patterned background makes the robot appear to come alive and move, illustrating how the eye perceives motion through overlapping patterns and convex lens imaging.
Everything included so no extra tools are needed. It includes pre-cut paper and cardboard sheets, mirror film, a double-sided mirror, a single-sided mirror, a convex lens, a PCS sheet, a light strip, tracing paper, a wooden stick, and double-sided tape are all provided. Simply follow the steps and build.
Once built, all three models work as intended, making this as much a hands-on optical toy as it is an educational science kit.
