Sensory Comfort Chews: Mielie / Baobab

Sensory Comfort Chews: Mielie / Baobab

R 129.00

Sensory seekers are often found to chew on their collars, cuffs, back of pencil or other inedible items. They seek out the tactile and heavy input received through sucking and chewing, which are both calming sensory inputs. But let’s be honest, chewed up clothes and pencils look terrible and because it doesn’t give enough sensory input the sensory seeker often needs to chew it more intensely. A chew toy designed to give more intense tactile and heavy input could help reduce the intensity of chewing and / or the frequency of chewing. Plus it means that the clothes don’t get chewed up.

Exploring new things frequently aids in development of infants and toddlers. Therefore having the Sensorium Baobab and Mielie Chews to explore and chew on will keep them engaged in chewing for longer, thereby increasing muscle strength in the mouth. This enables the development of suck, blow, chew, pout and more.

Excessive drooling can be curbed with the Sensorium Baobab as it stretches the cheeks and gives a large, smooth chewing surface.

Sloppy speech can be improved with the Sensorium Mielie as the little lumps in the chew encourages the tongue to move around. This develops the muscle tone in the mouth which enables clearer speech.

Sensory seekers often chew collars, cuffs, sleeves, pencils or other inedible things. Recommend: The Sensorium Baobab chew because it has a wider canopy which stretches the cheeks and enables more chewing at the back of the jaw.

*These are generalised recommendations based on typical patterns of development. Discuss the idea chew toy with your occupational therapist or speech and language therapist.
