READING FOR DETAILS IN STORIES SUPER FUN DECK

To become successful readers, it is imperative for students to identify and remember the important details in a story.

Reading for Details in Stories Super Fun Deck features 100 engaging stories divided into three levels of difficulty. Students read the story on the large cards and answer the comprehension question that follows. Then, they use the Super Duper Secret Decoder to check their answers. The comprehension questions increase in difficulty with each level.

Each story level is colour-coded for easy sorting:

Level 1 – Purple cards have 30 stories with 6–8 sentences at a 2nd–3rd grade readability level.

Level 2 – Yellow cards has 50 stories that are 10–12 sentences in length with a 4th–5th grade readability level.

Level 3 – Magenta cards includes 30 stories that have the same length and readability level as Level 2, but the stories also include facts about people, geography, animals, and more.

HERE ARE SOME FUN GAME IDEAS:

1.    HEAR YE! HEAR YE!

Choose a card level.  Shuffle the cards and place them face down in the middle of the players.  Plater with the closest birthday goes first and takes a card from the top of the deck.  Player one then reads the story, the question and the possible answers to the other players.  The player who knows the answer says his/her name and give the answer.  Then he/she checks the answer using the decoder.  If he/she is correct, the player scores a point.  That player then picks the next card, reads he story to the group and play continues.  The player with the most points wins.

2.    CORRECT IT:

Choose a card level.  Shuffle the cards and place them face down in the middle of the players.  Players with the closet birthday goes first an takes a card from the top of the deck.  Player One reads the story, the questions and answers the question using the decoder.  Then, he/she reads the incorrect answer and tries to correct them by giving the right details.  Score one point for every incorrect answer that the player corrects.  Play continues in turn.  Players with the most points win.
